Gluten Free Chex in Canada! #ChexGF

Hurray! My days of border crossing just for this cereal are over! Gluten free Chex are here and I’ve been buying up a storm. What a relief to be able to go to a mainstream store and pick up a few boxes of Chex. I do find the act of going to Buffalo just for cereal a bit silly, but it’s amazing what one will do when a product is not available, but now we can rejoice!

There are a few varieties of gluten free Chex in the US, but only two are available in Canada right now, the Rice and Honey nut. @MathieuLF has been eating his cereal with Silk True Almond Dark Chocolate, I’m a fan of Vanilla Unsweetened Almond Breeze. I have been too excited to have this cereal to even start playing around with it, but the fine people of General Mills have come up with a few recipes on their website here: http://www.lifemadedelicious.ca/Search.aspx?q=&tags=Gluten%20Free&lcid=en

I’ve noticed there are also $1 off coupons at some Loblaw stores on the coupon zone board. I don’t need a coupon to be encouraged to buy this product, but heck, it’s nice to have it as well. I found some stores had a lovely end isle display and some were already sold out off the shelf! I’ve asked for more in this instance and it seems the product is very popular. Exciting indeed!

The fun thing about Chex is the light taste and that it doesn’t feel heavy, like some crunchy cereals the roof of my mouth stays intact and doesn’t feel like I’ve put it through a battle field. The cereal doesn’t get incredibly soggy right away and stays relatively crunchy. I must admit to having a bowl as a midnight snack. It might be a little nuts to want to eat this cereal for breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner, but the versatility is very helpful! I can see crushing the cereal to use it for a tempura batter, or provide a crouton substitute in a salad, maybe an ice cream sunday topping!

The website has recipe ideas that can be adapted to a vegan diet and for those gluten free readers who are not vegan there are many options for you as well. I’ve signed up for the newsletter – I want to know what’s new and try different ways to use my new favourite cereal, plus I’m hoping I will get some great coupons.

In my next blog post I’ll follow up with a recipe or two, but right now I can’t stop the two of us from eating it as is to do so.

Let me know how you plan on using your Chex!
