Funny to think I share a birthday with him. (@poindexteriam did you know Mike Tyson has the same birthday as us?)

According to The New York Post it’s true. Crazy, but I hope this works!

Rosemary Garlic Red Skin Fries

You haven’t lived till you’ve made these fries. Last night @Mathieu_LF and I made these amazing Rosemary garlic infused red skin potato fries. We did marinate them over night, so if you do make them without marinating them, please do let me know how they turned out.

Be warned, you will want to make this recipe over and over again, I highly suggest bookmarking this!

Asian Vegan Gluten Free cooking: Lotus Root, Black Fungus and Oyster Mushroom Stir Fry with Rice Noodles

Mat finally found the black fungus mushrooms I’ve been craving and I had to do a post about them. Perhaps it’s my obsession with Japchae, but I have a strong love affair with black fungus mushroom.

Here’s what they look like dry: Continue reading

Gluten Free & Vegan Restaurant – Riz, Toronto

Harder than trying to find a needle in a haystack – gluten free eating when away from home. It’s hard to find a restaurant, at least in the suburbs of Toronto, who a) fully understands gluten intolerance and b) who will accommodate you without cross contamination. As with my experience at Fresh Restaurant, right downtown, where I for SURE thought Mat and I could get a real gluten free meal.

That said, Riz Restaurant, Pan Asian style cuisine, (1677 Bayview Avenue) offers a whole gluten free menu and it is possible to order vegan as well. Thank goodness, a restaurant that understands, actually makes tasty food and is reasonably priced! I can’t say enough good things about Riz, they’re very accommodating, the staff is friendly and the food is worth going back for. Riz is the type of restaurant everyone can be satisfied with, from a meat eater friend to a gluten free vegan. Continue reading

School Lunches Around the World & Thumb scanning for lunch!

Recently, I got to thinking about the crap food in my high school cafeteria. Admittedly, I had poutine at least twice a week. My school didn’t seem to care about nutrition; salad nor vegetables weren’t an option – everything was brown, deep fried. Looking back, I’m glad my mother saved me from eating crappy food.

I never experienced having lunch provided in school, but my mother did, meals at school were free of charge. Interesting concept, not for North America, as we pay for everything.

Surfing on Youtube I found a few school lunch videos:

Here’s one about a school in Harlem who is lucky enough to have a healthy eating program:

Meatless Monday!

Happy Monday, oh who am I kidding, I hate Mondays just as much as the rest of you.

Office Space

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta

Despite my astrological sign telling me that Mondays are my lucky day, I find that very, very hard to believe.

Either way, Monday looks like it’s a different meal day for some people. I just found out about Meatless Monday.

New Kiss My Face Soap! Vegan & Gluten Free

I know everyone doesn’t read Drugstorenews.com, but they’ve reported that Kiss My Face is looking to expand their brand and create a soap called “Peace”.

Kiss My Face Peace Soap

Kiss My Face Peace Soap

Kiss My Face’s Peace soap is:
– multipurpose
– pure,
– 100% natural castile soap

Here is a pack shot of the collection:

Kiss My Face Peach Holiday Collection

Kiss My Face is partnering with “Seeds of Peace, an organization that aims to develop relationships and leadership skills among young people from regions of conflict. Kiss My Face will continue to support Seeds of Peace by donating 10% of all profits from Peace soap to the organization.

Peace Soap will be available in the next quarter at such retailers as Whole Foods, Target, Fred Meyer, Publix, Loblaw and Wegmans.”

As this article is from the US, I’m assuming the distribution to Canadian chains of the stores above. Always nice to have a product you already buy donate profit to a good cause.

What soap do you use?

Follow up: Vegan Cats

Thanks to everyone who commented, emailed and talked to me in person about the Vegan Cats post. I didn’t expect such a response.

I’m not surprised how strongly people feel about their cats and other pets. I would like to hear from someone who does feed their vat a vegan diet, just out of curiosity.

Have a great weekend!
